Our Commitment

SPPIN Hub is committed to making the Platform accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that all users — regardless of ability — deserve a good experience when using our educational simulation platform.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Standards and Compliance

We strive to meet the following standards:

• WCAG 2.1 Level AA — our target standard for all new development
• EN 301 549 — the European accessibility standard for digital products and services
• UK Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 — we follow this guidance as best practice even where it does not apply to us as a private entity

Key Accessibility Features

• Keyboard navigation throughout the Platform
• Sufficient colour contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text)
• Text resizable up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
• Alt text on all informational images
• Form fields with associated labels
• Error messages that clearly identify the field in question
• Logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3)
• Focus indicators visible on interactive elements
• No content that flashes more than 3 times per second

We prioritise accessibility improvements based on severity of impact and number of users affected.

Testing Approach

Our accessibility testing approach includes:

• Automated testing using axe-core and Lighthouse on each release
• Manual testing with keyboard-only navigation
• Screen reader testing using NVDA (Windows) and VoiceOver (macOS/iOS)
• Colour contrast analysis using browser developer tools
• User testing with participants who use assistive technologies where possible

Technical Specifications

The Platform relies on the following technologies for conformance:

• HTML5
• CSS3
• JavaScript (ECMAScript 2020+)
• ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) where appropriate
• SVG for scalable graphics
